We are very excited to announce details for this year’s exclusive Sydney Owner’s Rally being held on Pittwater on the weekend of 13th March. This promises to a stunning destination-based rally and will be one of the most memorable yet! Please see below for the details and a link to register.
Saturday 13th March
10am | Skippers Briefing at Royal Motor Yacht Club, Broken Bay | The Skipper’s Briefing will be hosted by none other than our own Anthony Bishop & Ric Hawkins. The briefing is mandatory for all skippers wishing to compete and will cover all aspects of the day’s events, rally course and starting details, evening dining plans and the weather. It is also sure to feature Ric’s usual sardonic wit and boundless enthusiasm so always something to look forward to. Shuttle boat rides for Skippers berthed at Bayview Anchorage to and from the RMYC will take place from 9.30am. Coffee & Pastries will be available at the Club to help maintain everyone’s focus during the briefing.
12pm | Rally Start | The fun rally to Akuna Bay will start at 12pm Midday with a start line laid not far from the club. Dependent on entries there may be a staggered start and specifics of the course will be finalised at the briefing. The fleet will sail around West Head towards Akuna Bay and the location of the finish line will be in the vicinity of Refuge Bay (subject to conditions). Anyone crossing the start line with fenders still out will be penalised with one less Peking duck pancake than everyone else at the evening’s event. If you finish the race with fenders still out you will be penalised one further duck pancake per fender.
N.B. As there will be just one longer course this year we will not stop for lunch so each yacht is to please provide their own food and snacks for the day. The RMYC will have additional freshly made wraps and sandwiches ready at the Grab-and-Go brasserie for boats to buy if required. After crossing the finish line each boat will be furnished with cold frothy refreshments from our support vessel to enjoy during a gentle cruise through the spectacular scenery of Kuring-Gai Chase National Park as they meander towards Akuna Bay Marina.
4pm – 6pm | Arrival at Akuna Bay Marina | Members of the Marina Team will be on hand when boats arrive at their allocated berth in Akuna Bay. There will then be the opportunity to relax, catch up with friends and refresh yourselves onboard or at the Marina facilities prior to the evening’s drinks and dinner.
6.30pm | Sunset Drinks and Peking Duck Pancakes at San Martin | Drinks and pre-dinner snacks will be provided at Akuna Bay’s new and exclusive San Martin venue with a beautiful balcony from which to admire the stunning views and unwind with your fellow sailors. The results from the day will be announced and prizes then distributed throughout the evening.
7.30pm | Dinner | Julien Puteau, the highly regarded Head Chef from San Martin, will treat us to a gourmet display of culinary skill with a delicious feast which will be sure to impress. Alcoholic drinks (and delicious mocktails for those who aren’t drinking) are included throughout the evening and there will be a gluten-free options for the main course and dessert. Be warned that the desserts are sure to be something very special so don’t forget to save room to enjoy these. Please advise us early on if anyone in your group has any dietary requirements that we should be aware of.
San Martin will remain open until late so there will be plenty of opportunity to reflect on the adventures of the day and to plan the rest of your weekend. On Sunday morning the marina cafe, The Shed, will be open for breakfast, coffee and pastries and will also be ready to provide any hampers or pack lunches you may like to order for a day on the water.
For those without pressing commitments the marina will be very happy to accommodate a longer stay if required and we can highly recommend taking the time to explore the spectacular area and spend a night at anchor (or on a mooring) in one of the hidden creeks or bays. The Cottage Point Inn is famed for its a la carte and 8 course tasting menus while the nearby Cottage Point Kiosk is a little easier on the wallet and serves arguably the best Barramundi Coconut Curry on the planet.
Entry to the event will be $275 per yacht (includes the full day’s events, 3 course dinner and all drinks for two). Rally, dinner and drinks packages for additional guests and crew (as well as children) can be selected on the registration page. For our Sydney Harbour based owners who are short on time we can arrange to have your boats delivered to Pittwater ahead of the event, just speak to our team who will be happy to help.
To register for the event please follow the link below and we ask that skippers please sign-up no later than Friday 26th February so that marina berths and guest numbers can be arranged. It’s sure to be a memorable weekend with an excellent turnout so we very much look forward to catching up with all our friends, guests and fellow sailors.
