Windcraft has an award-winning RYCK 280 sports adventure day boat currently in stock and ready for immediate delivery.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, Australia is set to swelter through one of the hottest summers on record in 2024-25, largely due to ongoing high ocean temperatures.
The good news is there are few better ways to escape the heat than enjoying a long lunch off your favourite beach or lazing in the shade after a refreshing swim, cool drink in hand on your own boat. As the sun sets you can choose to zip back to a berth, or stay out overnight on your own stylish, comfortable and versatile 9.16 metre (30 ft), centre-console boat – the RYCK 280.
Since its launch in 2022 the Bill Dixon designed RYCK 280 has won many coverts to the day boating lifestyle with its combination of distinctive lines, dynamic performance, good sea-handling, quality appointments, safe walk-around decks, and genuine weekender credentials.
The German built RYCK 280 also continues to impress reviewers with its savvy use of space, offering room for up to eight people across three deck spaces including a large shaded cockpit with comfortable lounge and removable table at the stern, a bow lounge with twin sunbeds and the well-laid out helm area with its nicely stitched helm chairs.
Boating New Zealand put the RYCK 280 display model currently at Windcraft’s Sydney office through its paces and came away with this verdict: “Overall, this is a fantastic boat with superb performance.”
If uncluttered deck space is a major pre-requisite then this configured RYCK ticks the box as aft of the centre-console is the large single level cockpit with L-shaped lounge. An Isotherm drawer fridge is tucked under the lounge on the port side and there’s good access to the bow sunpad via deep, well-protected side decks. Even when you step up onto the bow area the rails are raised to provide continued security – this is a very safe boat to move around, even for children.
From the helm station it’s a couple of steps down into the forward cabin through a sliding door, and the interior with its Nordic style wood finishes is stylish and practical. To starboard is a separate toilet with hand basin and storage cupboard. To port of the steps is a galley cabinet for a microwave and up front is a generous double vee-berth, with infills to make a queen-sized bed.
Underway, the RYCK 280’s twin-stepped hull with reverse bow easily gets onto the plane powered by the powerful Mercury 350hp Verado engine, controlled by Mercury’s incredibly smooth digital throttle and shift (DTS). Top speed is an exhilarating 40 knots, but the RYCK has a range of well over 100 nautical miles at its fast cruising speed of 25-26 knots. The reverse plumb bow also ensures a smooth ride through chop as it splits the wave horizontally, dividing the water to each side.
Motor Boat & Yachting summed-up the RYCK 280 as “great to look at, easy to customise, fun to drive and affordable”. That’s high praise but in the RYCK’s case well-deserved.
