Hanse’s impressive new flagship will be unveiled at a global premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival in mid-September.
Back in March Hanse teased us with a couple of renders of the Hanse 590. They revealed an arresting design aesthetic shared with the Hanse 510 and Hanse 460; the Berret-Racoupeau hulls featuring a reverse bow, wide beam conferring excellent form stability, hull chines, along with a marked flare above the waterline aft to reduce wetted surface area and boost light air performance.
Fast forward five months and the details have been released about this magnificent blue water cruiser eminently capable of safely transporting its Owners across any ocean or sea in luxury and comfort.
In its standard configuration the Hanse 590 boasts supremely spacious accommodations; three huge double cabins, each with their own en-suite. A four-cabin version with a crew cabin in the bow and four bathrooms is offered as well as a six-cabin/four-bathroom layout that’s clearly aimed at the charter market. However, Hanse can tailor your 590 to your personal preferences, including an extra-large galley, an additional guest cabin, or a private dressing area in the owner’s suite.
Hanse’s new flagship will project an unmistakable on-water presence. At 17.6 metres (57 feet 9 inches) LOA, with a beam of 5.3m (17’ 5”), the 590 is longer and wider than its popular predecessor, the Hanse 588. Despite all the extra volume weight is about the same at 22.9 tonnes compared to the 588 at 22.8 tonnes.
The new flagship’s stand-out feature is space; starting with the cockpit.
Cockpit & Deck
The 590’s cockpit is huge and divides neatly between sailing areas aft and a sprawling socialising space forward of the twin helms, complete with stylish meridienne seats, large lounges and twin teak tables. On either side of the companionway optional sliding electric hatches enhance ventilation and the relaxed sense of an outdoor/indoor lifestyle.
Underway and sailing, your guests can sit back and relax on the lounges with all lines leading to controls within easy reach of the helmsman/skipper. The winches are positioned inboard beside and in front of the twin helm stations, the placement a sign of the 590’s ability to be sailed short-handed.
As large as the 590’s cockpit is, it’s well-protected from the elements by a T-top that is an impressive engineering feat in itself as the foldable windscreen.
A hydraulic gangway connects to the shore, while the expansive swim platform is accessed via a few steps from the water and can be extended into a beach club using an inflatable module. Powerful hydraulic dampers ensure the stability of the platform even in choppy conditions.
The 590’s big tender garage can accommodate a fully inflated 3.1 metre RIB or dinghy, easily deployed and conveniently launched even single-handed using the Hanse Smart Tender System.
The foredeck can handily host another sun lounge with an awning for shade.
Interior
Up to 22 opening hatches and windows ensure maximum light and ventilation below deck. With the choice of 36 possible layout combinations, and even more furniture, floor and fabric options
the Hanse 590 is much closer to a luxury semi-custom yacht than its production cousins.
The cavernous owner’s cabin including en-suite bathroom can be re-configured into two generous forward double cabins with their own bathrooms, as well as an additional separate crew cabin. In addition to the two aft guest cabins, each with its own bathroom, there is also the option of choosing a further single cabin on the port side instead of a bathroom.
Encompassing 21 square metres, the extremely spacious saloon offers seating for up to 12 at the large table, which is available in two different versions and can be lowered to create a lounge area. Opposite is either another lounge corner or a multifunctional area that doubles as navigation hub or home office.
The large island kitchen forward to port is perfect for catering to the varied requirements for the crew or guests, with plenty of storage space and all the technical options including an optional two-burner induction hob and a full- height refrigerator. The maximum cooling capacity across two fridges is a commendable 398 litres.
Rig
Standing 26.27 metres above the waterline the 590’s mast is almost half-a-metre taller than the 588’s. The standard main is 91 square metres, with in-mast furling option 81 square metres. An optional second forestay on a furler, complemented by the bowsprit with integrated anchor arm and electric winches on the deck means an easy switching of sail modes, very useful for those contemplating extended bluewater passages.
Sails
High-performance SPS Sustainable Performance Sails from Elvstrøm, made predominantly from recycled materials, are available as a environmentally friendly option. Windcraft can assist in selecting and ordering additional sails such as gennakers and spinnakers.
Engine
The Hanse 590 is supplied with a 110 hp diesel engine sail drive with a three-bladed folding propellor. A 150 hp version is also available as an option, as are bow and stern thrusters.
Flagship Package
As befitting its status the 590’s sense of luxury and refinement can be complemented by high-quality leather handrails, a designer table with folding table top in the saloon, superior saloon upholstery with multifunctional backrests, blinds for the hull windows, the kitchen island in slat design, coloured high-gloss fronts for the wall cabinets and upholstered headboards in the cabins.
Sustainability
In addition to the Sustainable Performance Sails, which are primarily made from recycled fibres, the Hanse 590 can also be equipped with solar panels on the roof and the T- top as well as a fuel cell. Both serve to increase the 590’s range away from shore.
Due to its size, interior volume, superior appointments, and easy sail handling, Windcraft anticipates that the Hanse 590 will attract a dedicated cohort of admirers keen to secure a premium sailing yacht capable of voyaging for weeks at a time in luxurious surroundings.
“We have been fortunate to work with the Owners of a number of yachts of this calibre and are confident the Hanse 590 will meet and exceed expectations,” says Windcraft Managing Director Anthony Bishop.
“The 590 offers its Owner a truly unique cruising experience under sail, and we look forward to introducing this innovative and beautiful example of sailing technology to sailors in Australia and New Zealand,” he adds.
