Among the gleaming hulls bobbing at the Cannes and Southampton Boat Shows there was no mistaking the Fjord 39 XL.
In early September there’s only one place anyone vaguely interested in yachting and new designs should be: the Cannes Yachting Festival.
In its 47th year it’s the biggest on-water boat show in Europe, and the 2024 edition showcased more than 600 new craft, including Fjord’s stunning 39 XL, a new addition to the acclaimed Fjord range.
One of the definite highlights at Cannes this year was the new Power Boat Marina, dedicated to motor boats up to 12-13 metres, located at Port Canto. Fjord was there centre-stage with the Fjord 39 XL, along with the Fjord 41 XL, and the flagship Fjord 53 XL.
Making its glitzy French premiere, the Fjord 39 XL attracted plenty of attention. The presentation, led by HanseYachts CEO Hanjo Runde and Product Manager Andrea Zambonini revealed in-depth insights about the designers’ vision, configuration possibilities, and user comfort.
The official release from Fjord stated: “We could not imagine a better occasion or more beautiful surroundings to establish and strengthen relationships, proudly display our models, and nurture the passion that unites us, our dealers, and our customers – the irresistible call of the sea.”
The 39 XL proved one of the stars of motor yacht marina, with dockside queues of admirers eager to get up close and personal with this latest example of Fjord’s iconic fast, open plan design ethos that also combines a luxurious high-quality fit-out, signature distinctive looks, first-class engineering and sea-going ability.
They were no doubt impressed how the Fjord 39 XL’s deck layout makes best possible use of the boat’s wide 3.87 metre beam with the display model at Cannes featuring three helm seats (option), backing onto a transverse galley, with a large central dinette and an aft sunpad. Down below there’s spacious master cabin with a queen berth and en-suite bathroom.
The 39 XL also made its UK debut at the Southampton Boat Show in the same week as the Cannes event. Motor Boat & Yachting included the Fjord 39 XL on its list of ‘Best motor yachts at the Southampton Boat Show 2024’.
MBY liked the Fjord 39 XL’s “big open deck to make the most of the boat’s fluid zero-step walkaround design”. It went on to say: “As a high-end Med-style party platform it’s a very easy boat to customise too.”

The Fjord 39 XL also benefits from a sandwich construction hull, combined with a robust inner grid of stringers that results in an extremely stiff boat. The hull itself is coated with an isophthalic gelcoat.
The hull design has utilised extensive CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulations to create the same sure-footed rough weather driving experience capabilities of the entire Fjord range, as well as the dry ride that the brand’s high topside hulls are renowned for.
The distinctive T-top and tall windscreen ensure significant protection from wind, rain and sun while still giving an open-boat feel with a focus on having fun at anchor where guests can spread out on the spacious deck across various seating and entertainment areas.
The exclusive interior concept of the Fjord 39 XL makes optimum use of of space below deck. The spacious cabin is equipped with a large double berth. The drawers underneath and easy-to-use built-in cupboards on the port side offer plenty of storage space, which can be optionally extended by a wardrobe on the starboard side. The standard fridge on the port side provides additional options for catering for guests. The fully equipped head with separate shower is to starboard.
There is a choice of four different design styles for the interior: Classic, Polar, Elegance, and Sport.
