There’s been plenty of interest in Windcraft’s two award-winning designs on display at the Auckland Boat Show.
A dose of balmy autumn sunshine has seen a steady stream of show-goers on the Marina in Jellicoe Harbour, eager to look over our two highly innovative and acclaimed yachts: the Hanse 460 and Moody DS45.
Iain Bishop from the Windcraft Team says the 460’s performance, easily capable of 8-12 knots off the breeze, has been a talking point, and for the Moody, an appreciation of its single-level free-flowing space, similar to a catamaran.
He also reports that cruising is well and truly back on the agenda for many sailors, after the disruptions and restrictions of the pandemic.
“We’ve had seven or eight boats head up to the Bay of Islands, and there’ll be more for the various holidays this year,” he predicts. “We’ve had four to five heading to Fiji and a similar number with plans for the trip next year. We can advise and assist any Owner with the prep required for a longer passage with things such as a service and rig and systems checks, for piece-of-mind before they cast off,” he adds.
At 15.3 meters LOA with a beam of 4.79 meters, the Hanse 460 is one of the largest monohull sailing yachts at the show and represents a step-change in technology, innovation, and space in the family cruiser category of yacht.
Awarded European Yacht of the Year 2022, the 460 combines powerful lines from renowned French naval architecture firm Berrett-Racoupeau and precision German engineering inherent across the entire Hanse sailing range.
Happy Juice, the 460 on display is a high spec’d version three cabin two-bathroom version complete with a T-top, windscreen, and clears, and has proved the perfect platform for visiting some of the dozens of islands that the Hauraki Gulf is well-known for.
Moody’s DS or Deck Saloon range features a single-level walkthrough from the cockpit through to the galley and saloon, creating a configuration that neatly maximises exterior and interior space on one level, similar to a catamaran, hence the term ‘monomaran’.
The Moody 45 DS presented at the show is a three-cabin two-bathroom model with a protected cockpit, expansive saloon views, and luxurious touches Moody is renowned for. This 45 DS also boasts a second internal helm with engine controls to escape, when required, the vagaries of the weather.
The Windcraft Team will be on-hand for personal tours of each boat, and to discuss any model from our Dehler, Solaris, Contest, and Privilège sailing ranges. We’ve also launched a tailored syndicate ownership scheme that is a great template for Owners contemplating self-managing a boat syndicate.
The Auckland Boat Show runs till 5pm on Sunday 9th March.
