Due to the overwhelming demand from those who loved the aft-cockpit design of the Contest 42CS but wanted something a little larger, the Contest 49CS has arrived as the line's eagerly anticipated bigger sister. Built with versatility and luxury in mind, this model stands as an exceptional long-range cruiser that balances performance with supreme comfort, well-suited for both bluewater and coastal sailing.
After decades of dominance in the centre-cockpit category, Contest designers have now broadened their lineup, inviting those who appreciate an aft-cockpit experience without compromising space or stability. Renowned naval architects Judel/Vrolijk & Co designed the 49CS's hull for optimal hydrodynamics, offering less heel, reduced drag, and a notably smooth ride through choppy seas. This advanced hull design, together with Contest's celebrated vacuum-injection composite construction, ensures a quiet, resilient vessel that's as durable as it is elegant.

The aft-cockpit layout on the Contest 49CS opens up the deck for extensive lounging and social space, while also providing excellent visibility and control for the skipper. Twin helm positions are positioned aft, ensuring unobstructed sightlines, while all necessary sail controls are within reach for ease of single-handed or small-crew sailing. A carbon fibre A-frame with an integrated hydraulic furling system simplifies sail handling downwind and contributes to the yacht’s aerodynamic advantage.
The deck design incorporates synthetic teak as an optional low-maintenance alternative to traditional wood, and photovoltaic solar cells are subtly embedded into the coach roof for a sustainable energy source without compromising style. The yacht’s transom folds down hydraulically at the touch of a pedal to reveal a spacious tender garage, which doubles as a large bathing platform when lowered. This clever design makes launching the tender effortless and eliminates the need for bulky davits, preserving both aesthetics and deck space.
The Contest 49CS offers a refined, light-filled interior, courtesy of its semi-raised saloon configuration. The aft cockpit arrangement allows for an elevated saloon with ample headroom, sweeping ocean views, and natural light from the large coach roof windows. Interior design by the award-winning Wetzels Brown Partners leverages Contest’s single-injection moulding technology, yielding stronger structural integrity and allowing for larger open spaces without additional bulkheads.
The layout is both flexible and luxurious, accommodating up to six guests. The forward master suite is spacious and well-appointed, featuring custom cabinetry and elegant fixtures. Aft, twin cabins can be configured to each have either a double bed or two singles, offering versatility for family use or guest comfort. A two-sided galley makes use of the yacht’s beam, with substantial countertop space, ample storage, and top-of-the-line appliances, perfect for long voyages.
With a Yanmar 81kW engine, a draft of 2.35m, and a total fuel and water capacity of 700L, the Contest 49CS is engineered for extensive, self-sufficient cruising. Buyers also have the option of all-electric propulsion, highlighting Contest Yachts’ commitment to sustainable innovation.
The Contest 49CS masterfully blends aesthetic sophistication with technical prowess, creating a yacht that satisfies the demands of dedicated bluewater sailors while offering the luxury and comfort expected of a high-end cruiser.
