Fjord fans are enjoying a double treat with the wraps coming off the new Fjord 39 XP and the new Fjord 39 XL soon to come.
In its 42nd year, the Palm Beach International Boat Show or PBIBS held from 21-24 March is one of the biggest on-water shows in the United States and this year showcased hundreds of models of dayboats, cruisers, and fishing boats, as well as marine accessories.
Among the most anticipated debuts was the world premiere of the new outboard powered Fjord 39 XP. Well-known U.S. boating publication Power & Motoryacht was at the show and filmed this video walk-thru of the 39 XP, praising its “really practical features that should make it a force in the day boat market.”
The 39 XP at the Palm Beach show was configured with Florida’s open boating lifestyle in mind, including a half windshield to allow more airflow at speed. Immediately obvious was the sheer size of the XP’s T-top. All of the boat’s expansive cockpit is shaded, while robust roof pillars integrated into the side wall ensure even more deck space for relaxing. Backrests on the large aft sunpad flip over to do double duty for the aft lounge for the dining table. Another lounge forward means eight guests can be comfortably seated around the nicely finished folding table. Forward is the outdoor galley with sink, and there’s room for up to five fridges. The flexible, open layout won approval from many of the show goers.
The positive reception extended to the prestigious Robb Report which nominated the Fjord 39 XP as one of its ten most exciting boats at the show:
“The 39 XP and XL keep all the bold design cues of the bigger Fjord 41 XP and XL, like a big, open cockpit, walkaround centre console, vertical bow, mile-high windshield and stretched hardtop. As for the differences between the XP and XL, it’s all about power. The XL comes with a choice of twin 320hp Volvo D4 diesels, or bigger 440 hp D6 versions, both with Volvo stern drives. Likely more appealing to U.S. buyers will be the XP powered by twin 400 hp Mercury Verado V10 outboards giving a 50-knot top speed.”
The focus now switches to the Spanish island of Mallorca, one of the Med’s boating meccas and the location of the Palma International Boat Show from 25-28 April. The Fjord 39 XL will undoubtedly be one of the day-boat stars of the show during its world premiere unveiling there.
At 11.97 metres the XL is just slightly longer than its outboard sibling and enjoys extra lounging space on the transom sans outboards. Down below it features the same generous double-berth as the XP with storage space integrated under the bed and in nearby wardrobes. As an option, these can be extended by a hanging locker on the starboard side. A fridge, fitted on the port side is standard while the bathroom with separate shower is located on the starboard side. Four stylish different interior design styles; classic, elegance, polar and sport are available. Performance is anticipated to be in the vicinity of 45 knots but perhaps that will be confirmed by a lucky few in Palma.
Both models will be priced from €460,000.
