Motor Boat & Yachting discovered the stunning new Fjord 490 Open excelled in both the small details and big spaces, delivering a sublime boating experience.
Exceptional access to the water, stylish open deck ambiance, generous accommodations and attention to detail were the highlights for MBY’s Hugo Andreae on his extensive, exclusive tour of Fjord’s new 15.32 metre, or 50ft 3in luxury dayboat.
The all-new Fjord 490 comes in two impressive variants, Open and Sport. The Marco Casali design features a plumb bow and high bulwarks, representing an evolution of the signature design DNA Fjord is known and appreciated for by discerning motor yacht buyers and enthusiasts all over the world.
Both versions boast fold-down side balconies for unfettered access to the water – a first for Fjord and a feature that very much places the 490 in the vanguard of the luxury day boat category. The expansive T-top, an impressive feat of engineering in itself, provides shade and can house solar panels, while the spacious deck dimensions and walkaround design ensure freedom of movement.

The Fjord 490 Open headlining the Fjord display at the recent Cannes Yachting Festival attracted a throng of dockside admirers eager to check-out the 490’s folding balconies, huge party space, dimensions of the two large cabins and the twin Volvo IPS 800s that power the 490 to 34 knots.
The 490’s deck also features a swim platform that encompasses enough space to be a mini beach club, complete with integrated extendable steps providing safe and easy access to the water. The sunpad stretches over five square metres with an adjustable front section that provides unobstructed views and can transform into a forward-facing bench for casual dining.
Standard layout for the new Fjord 490 is two-double cabins with an optional separating bulkhead. There’s also the option of two private heads with separate showers.
Alternatively, a very comfortable U-shaped seating area can be configured in the bow to create a relaxed, stylish lounge space below deck. In this version, your full-beam 4.58 metre master cabin is located amidships and features a hugely desirable amount of walk-around space around the bed and again can be left open or closed off with a bulkhead and door.
Owners can opt for either separate or combined head and shower cubicles and the starboard side of the lobby can be outfitted with extra storage space if desired.
